Week End at the North Carolina Beaches?

If you love the beach as much as I do you would be happy to take any available opportunity to visit the ocean. Here are a few of my favorite North Carolina Beaches to visit.

Outer Banks

The Outer Banks beaches are vast and beautiful with over 100 miles of beaches. There are many different options in the area – you choose how wild and close to nature and accessible only with 4 x 4’s or how luxury you want your get away to be, with paved parking and walk onto the beach scenarios. Whatever you choose it’s a memorable experience.

The Northern Beaches of Nags Head, Kitty Hawk, Duck, Kill Devil Hills and Southern Shores are more easily accessible with paved parking and natural walkways and are situated close to convenience and other shopping. Southern Shores has limited parking which is done via a sticker system and for residents and local house vacationers only. Duck is largely pet friendly and one can even see people walking with their well controlled dogs off leashes, enjoying the beach and the water.

The Hatteras Islands with villages such as Rodanthe, Salvo, Waves which is more commonly known as the tri-villages has wonderful waves while Hatteras, Frisco, Buxton and Avon are more rustic options. Buxton has a spectacular lighthouse in fact it is the tallest lighthouse in America while Avon is the most populated town in the area. Hatteras is the go to place for dining and shopping and of course 4 x 4 trails run south of this point.

Access to the Outer Banks is via bridge. Look out for the wild horses of the Outer Banks. A magical phenomenon and a priceless moment in time.

Oak Island

Beautiful seaside town straddling the island and the mainland. With a larger population there is a broader shopping and dining opportunities

Emerald Isle

This magnificent yet small town is located on Bogue Banks. Enjoy deep sea fishing or play golf or just relax on the beach and enjoy the waters of this magical Crystal Coast.

Topsail Island

Watch the dolphins playing in the surf while you sit on the beach and enjoy the unbelievable sunsets. A quiet haven with fishing, golfing and swimming opportunities.

Bald Head Island

Bald Head Island is just a ferry ride from the mainland and once you land on the shell covered beaches, use golf carts or the tram service to get to the main town area. You can climb to the top of bald head or lie on the beaches and enjoy the water, walk out onto the fishing pier or enjoy the sunsets.

Wrightsville Beach

A scenic coastal town with perfectly clear waters and breathtaking sunsets. Kayak round the area and enjoy this wonderful experience

Wilmington

From the slatted wooden boardwalk to the paved and cobbled streets,Wilmington North Carolina is a more bustling weekend getaway. The Victorian architecture and the beautiful mossy oaks – Wilmington is definitely a favorite.

The North Carolina Coastline with the Outer Banks is such a beautiful place to visit. There are many more towns and beaches along the way, these are just a few of my favorites. Take some time out and explore the area – a day is never enough – but the week end is good for the soul.
